Apparently, starting tomorrow Mrch 8th, it will be Read an ebook week.   Who knew?  So in honor of that, I encourage all my friends to go out and read an ebook.

And, almost as if they planned it this way, I got an email from Amazon announcing their new Kindle App for iPhone (and iTouch).  FREE.  Yeah, there's been tons of speculation about this coming down the pike.  It's quite interesting.  It appears to work both independantly, but it also appears as if it will continue to sync up with an existing Kindle, so that if you own both devices, it will save your place, and you can switch off and not lose it.   That's impressive.

Will this be the "death knell" for the physical Kindle?  I don't think so.  Even after having played with an iTouch, I'm not sure I think those screens are big enough that I feel I can read them long term the way I can my Kindle.  But....I'm willing to admit, I'd still be pretty happy with an iTouch (or iPhone if I ever end up without a phone provided by my employment.)  My wife felt it wasn't a fit for her life, but then, I'm enough of a gamer and geek still that I can see the fun with all the dorky apps that can be had on the iTouch.   Who knows.

So folks who wanted to have the access to all those Kindle books that I've been talking about, here's your chance.

I can only think this will make what's available on the Kindle explode.  I mean, if you add all those iPhone/touch users to the Kindle sales pool....wow.  That's impressive.   Does this mean there's an end in sight for the physical Kindle?  I don't think so.  But this does mean, that even if they DO stop supporting the device, they are smart enough to realize that by continuing to support the backend, they can keep or even expand their customer base.  Which I think is a very, very smart approach.
