Today, the Little Man turned four. I had some days left that I have to use up before year's end, so I took the day off to spend it with him and the family. It was a blast. We all got to join him for the last bit of his class day at preschool, where we sang him Happy Birthday, and gave out little snacks to the kid's. Then we took him out for lunch at the local Thai restaurant, which he loves. He got to visit the fish in the tank at the back of the restaurant and it's been so long since I've sat down there, that I shocked at how big some of those fish had gotten. Wow. Anyway, we love this Thai restaurant, so if you're ever in our neck of the woods and are hankering for some Thai, Thai Kitchen on Prince Rodgers Ave in Bridgewater is the place to go. Not only are they good, they are fast like you can't believe. From order to food on the table in about seven minutes. I've been to fast food joints that don't serve that fast.
After lunch we went home, read a few stories, because it's one of my son's favorite things to do, and because his preschool does this awesome idea of a birthday bag. That's a little sack that's got a bunch of special birthday things you get to have overnight when it's your birthday. Included were some nice birthday books, some music and a DVD. Well, after reading a few of those stories, it was time to mix up his birthday cake, which he was excited to help us bake. (Okay, we did cheat a bit and use a mix, but so what, that made it kid friendly and easy) and once that was cooking it was more play time until dinner. After dinner and the cake with candles, we gave him his birthday gift, and then proceeded to frustrate the poor guy as it took us forever to get the darn thing out of the packaging. Oh my god. Really manufacturers, do you NEED to make a parent's life miserable and to torture young children by making your boxes and packaging so intricate and complex to open? When I was a kid, most of the time stuff was in a box. You opened the box and took things out. Sometimes you put it together. But there were not nearly so many flaps, and folds, and tie downs, and heaven help you if there's a zip tie or two in there, because those damn things are EVIL. Seriously, you can get cut on those trying to open them. In any case, there was just enough time after that for the boys to enjoy playing with Stinky the Garbage Truck before bath time, that coaxing them upstairs was....challenging.
But all said, it was a great day, I'm glad I had it, and was able to take advantage of it.
