Today, as my wife dashed into a store to do a few quick returns, I drove around the parking lot with the Little Man strapped in. Sometimes its just easier that way, as he gets very frustrated going in and out of the car seat. In any case, I was slowly drifting through an empty part of the parking lot--keeping the car moving with the hope that I might lull him into taking a nap--I glanced up at the rear-view. Suddenly I noticed two little fists pop up into range. Then they dropped back down and I caught a giggle. Curious, I slowed the car to a crawl and watched further.

Again, I saw the little fists pop up into view. Clutched in them was the fuzzy blanket we keep in the car to keep him warm. A quick adjustment of the mirror showed me what was going on. Directly opposite from the Little Man is a little device that my old roommates bought him as a present. It's a little thing he can kick with his feet, and it lights up, and plays music and amuses him. Well, when I don't let the batteries run dry. Along the top of the toy, is a little mirror so that he can see himself, and that a driver can use to see his face through the rear-view. (That whole light reflectivity thing and angles of incidence and reflection...yada, yada.) It seems as if he now understands that the picture in the mirror is himself. Or at least someone fun. Because he was playing peek-a-boo with his own reflection. Now, he's found it funny for quite some time when I hide and he lifts up a blanket to see me. It's only been recent that he's found it amusing to hide on his own. But he found a simple and easy way to amuse himself in what I'm sure was a pretty boring situation. Me wandering the car around a parking lot, him strapped to a seat. All he had was himself, a blanket and a mirror, and he managed to make the both of us laugh.

Now on a related subject. My son has this little toy robot. On the robot are buttons. One for numbers to learn counting. One for shapes. One for letters. And one for music. Among the few songs the robot knows is this song I've never heard. It's a bit of a counting song, and the annunciation on a part of the verse is a little bit off. I've dropped in a little video of one repeat. See what it sounds like "Daddy says" in the song below. Post your answer. (For fun do so without reading anyone else's response.)
