It's a bit hard to describe. I learned English mostly through written texts, not verbally, so my comprehension of English is largely text-based--I can understand many written words that I don't know how to pronounce, and all that. While the words do get sounded out in my head, they don't usually come out as if somebody was reading the story aloud to me.

As you've probably guessed, I'm a very fast reader. Sometimes I can appear to read slowly but that's because I have a habit of coming back several times to reread a passage when I'm not sure I've understood its meaning correctly.
