Yesterday was a good day.  It was Mother's day--my lovely wife's first mother's day.  Among other things, we went out to dinner last night for Indian food, something we haven't done in a long time. My wife loves Indian food, as do I, and this particular restaurant--a favorite--is just enough out of town that we had no problem getting a table even on a holiday.

It was in fact a double celebration though, as our two house guests joined us for dinner.  I haven't spoken much about them, but these are our old roommates, and they bought a new house.  Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, the nor'easter of '07 came through, and brought forth a great deluge--flooding their home.  Since that time, they have been our guests.  Because we'd all been roommates, it was much like old times, and we enjoyed having them around.  It would have been fun, had it not been for the tragedy that made it necessary.  With much admired determination, they set about rebuilding their home.  And last night, they were able to move themselves and their two hapless cats back into their house.

Though I already miss having them around, I'm happy for them.  It was an important victory for them to set a goal, and meet it.  A lot of hard work, went into meeting that goal.  Every night they came home from full time day jobs, and put in hours of hard physical labor to get things back in order.   There is still a tremendous amount to do, but I hope their spirits can remain high and determined as they have over the past month.
