I got an email from Amazon, letting me know about a TV Show on the Sci Fi Channel that will be airing tomorrow night.   Now, I happened to all ready know about said TV Show.  But still....from Amazon????

Someone had definitely come up with some new marketing schemes.

Is that part of the whole episode download trend that is occuring, where folks like netflix and amazon provide a means to download the episode legally?

That's what I thought, except none of the links sent me to amazon to download or purchase anything. They just sent me to the IMDB or to SciFi's official website. Seems to me, that someone has come up with a smart marketing system. I bet they paid Amazon to send out the message to people, based upon the same technology about their recommendations engine to specifically target potential audiences.

I admire that. Not simply because I happen to think this item is interesting, but because I get so much "spam" for lack of a better word that is junk I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, that I'm happy to have someone send me things I might actually care about.

Well, that'll hold up only until my mailbox gets flooded beyond comprehension. Then I'll just get frustrated all over again.

I recieved the very same email. Sci-Fi is advertising the crap out of said show, which looks cool.

Amazon always has been a very clever marketer. I both hate and admire the way they've used statistics to replace actual booksellers. They track what people are buying and then recommend that if you bought x, you will like what other people who bought x will like. Sigh. It works, but I hate being replaceable by a computer program. BTW, Amazon has been managing websites for several other companies, including other bookstore chains. It doesn't surprise me that much that they've got some tie in with TV channels.
