Okay, that's not shabby. But it's wrong. There is a distinct problem with their test, which is this: It's not concrete sentences. I don't write in jumbled up garbage. Even when I'm reading something else and typing it, I don't type in jumbled non-sequitor crap.

So, I dumped their version, ignored whatever they wanted me to type, and typed what came to mind. I scored higher. 75 to be exact, and I think even then I hadn't really hit a good stride. The difference is that my brain has to process each word in their system as I type it, because it doesn't make sense. I can't attempt to parse ahead and type at the full speed of my thoughts. Remember, I read slowly. And if what I'm reading doesn't actually make any sense, then I read even slower.

Bleh.

yeah that was a truly screwy test. I wonder why they didn't choose sentences.

Well, as the way the guy designed it, taking the test repeatedly to increase your score is supposed to make you better at typing. Why? Because it tests you on the 300 most common English words. So the more you type them, the better you get....etc.

Does it work? I don't know. But I went back later and legitimately scored a 68. Which is much closer to reality for me. I'm good, but not amazing. My mother, in her prime probably would have scored over 100. Note: the wpm on this is not what real typing scores are based upon. Those are based upon characters divided by 5, total - number of mistakes. So even my 58 words was a poor estimate, because it should have been a 64-3=61. But whatever.

I don't like the way it checks errors either. The first time I took the test I did it with no errors. The second time I had many errors in a row, because I didn't look back up at the screen to realize that since I didn't correct the error on the first one it kept erroring out the next words. screwy. But needless to say my first test was better wpm.
