Wow. What a fantastic day. Tonight, we had our congregation's big yearly fundraiser. My Lovely Wife and I have run the treasury for this auction for the past four years, and it's always quite a lot of hectic work. This year we got a lot of help. Well earned props go out to
reillye who worked hard to help us manage to pull this off. With the Little Man so young, and us new parents I don't think we could have possibly pulled off a successful treasury without the extra hands before hand. We also much appreciated the feeding and caring of the treasury committee headed up by
greatscott66 and
booksherpa, I think the wife and I agree, that we managed to actually eat more this year than most others. There were a few others who jumped in to help at the end of the night, right when we need the extra hands the most.
We still didn't get to bid on as many things as we probably would have liked, I know we got a few things we wanted. I think that had as much to do with being distracted with life at home as anything else. Normally, we spend a lot more time going over what to bid on, and what to donate, etc, and this year, we had so little time we just had to keep things simple.
What truly amazes me, is that even with all the new elements we introduced this year, everything just flowed. I think with the right kind of tweaking, we can get the database to work better, which would make things even smoother. I also want to test running it with two laptops, so that we can have one for master data entry, and another for the corrections. It offloads work from the primary person, usually my wife, and means that we can keep up with the current bids, even as someone else can go in and fix behind the scene. But we need to set up a bogus copy of the database and test that. A few laptops with wireless, it should be feasible. It's just a question of taking the time to test it out sufficiently. Last thing I want is to see it break in the middle of an auction.
The final amazing thing about this year's auction, is we were done earlier than ever before. Even setting aside the idea that we started an hour earlier, we got home before 11 PM. We normally don't even have the car packed before midnight. Which means we were at least a 1/2 hour ahead of schedule by my book. And that I'm home, and able to post this, and it's still before midnight. :)
