I had to do a demo at the year end meeting this year. I got to show off the new VMWare installation, combined with the Bladecenters, and how things worked to some of the other IT folks who don't directly work with this stuff. A short demo, just kind of gave an overview of some of the cool features that the latest version gives us, and I was pleasantly surprised that when I did the live demo of the HA feature, it not only worked, but cranked through and had the servers coming up on the new Host before I'd even finished explaining how it worked, and what it was going to do. On the prior three times I'd gone over this when preparing the demo, it had crashed and burned, and didn't really work at all. So it was pretty awesome to have it work, and fast when I was on the hot seat.
My wife recently informed me that they've taken a tally of the songs my son can sing in French. It's over a dozen. That's more songs than I know in French. I'm amazed at his repertoire at this point. Not only that, he can get through most of Lydia the Tattooed Lady, and Good Morning, (from Singing in the Rain.) We think he knows something upwards of fifty songs. Of course, the more songs he knows, the more they kind of intermingle as he sings them. And some, he most does as a call and response. Which is to say, we will have to alternate lines to keep him interested, otherwise he just sings the first two lines of a song, and then picks a new one to sing. Or he'll sometimes make up his own versions of things. Like: "Dreydel, dreydel, dreydel, I made you out of glass...." Glass? Um...okay. I'm pretty sure that'd take some mad skills to pull off. But hey, he likes to aim high, he does.
I'm trying to map out which, if any conventions I'll be getting to this year. I'm planning to go to Boskone, though plans have not 100% finalized. Yes. I probably should resolve that, but as I'm about to head out on a work trip this weekend, it might have to wait. I know some of my online buds will be there, if so, I sure hope to meet up with you. I'd love to hit Readercon again this summer, but that's on the "if I'm lucky" list. I'm holding out a little hope. Just in case I can somehow finagle it. But every time I've asked the Magic 8-ball, it's come back with "The outlook does not look good." Damn magic 8 ball. I may do Philcon again, but that's so far out in the year, that I'll have a much better clue in the fall. It was an okay con, had a decent time and met some cool people there. It just didn't wow me. But then, last PhilCon I attended was back in the early 90's. The atmosphere has changed a bit.
Mostly, I'm focused right now, on just keeping on, keeping on. There's a bit of long slog mentality. One foot. Next foot. One foot. Next foot. At some point, I'm going to have to look up, and make sure that I'm oriented the right way. Today, however, is not that day. Today, is Next foot.
